The United States Patent Office states that there are different types of Patent Applications/Proceedings. They are:

- Nonprovisional (Utility) Patent Application Filing Guide
- Guide to Filing a Design Patent Application
- Plant Patent Application
- Filing a new international application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)
