Edward Lenart, the inventor of this innovative hand tool, developed the Lenart Trim/Molding Puller while performing renovations in his own home. He attempted to remove the molding and trim from a couple rooms while keeping them intact for re-use, a task that proved to be much more difficult than he initially thought. After developing and improving upon a few prototypes, he felt ready to bring his invention to market. In July of 2009, he approached InventHelp and purchased their services in the hopes of finding a company interested in licensing his invention.

Fast forward to January 16, 2014, when a licensing deal was executed between InventHelp-Intromark and Partsmaster, which is a division of NCH Corporation and a well-known manufacturer and distributor of hand tools. Partsmaster’s exclusive licensing deal for the Lenart Trim/Molding Puller provided them with the flexibility to create more prototypes, conduct field testing, research manufacturing costs and engage in market research. From there, they were able to secure a distribution deal with The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart.

Since purchasing InventHelp services in 2009, the client has received more money than he initially paid to InventHelp. He will continue to receive royalties on any purchases made on his product through Walmart.com and TheHomeDepot.com. Retired teacher, Barbara Winfield, wanted a better cheesecake pan. Her goal: to find a pan that would not only ensure the cheesecake would bake evenly, and would also eliminate the need to use a second pan during the baking process. Like many inventors, Barbara couldn’t find the exact pan she was looking for on the market so she decided to invent her own. It was at that moment the Perfect Pan was born.

Barbara’s Perfect Pan not only ensures a cheesecake bakes evenly but also prevents dips from forming in the cake. In addition, it does indeed eliminate the hassle of having to use a second pan, which can be cumbersome for bakers. According to Barbara, “I was so tired of dirtying extra dishes while making my cheesecakes. I knew there had to be a better way to make the process more efficient.” Believing other bakers would have an interest in her cheesecake pan, Barbara contacted her local InventHelp® sales office in October of 2010 to purchase submission services and be referred to a patent attorney.

In August of 2011, the InventHelp DataBank® submitted a brochure of Barbara’s Perfect Pan to New York-based Chef’s Planet, a company that designs, manufactures, and markets a broad range of kitchen housewares products around the world. Founded in 2002, Chef’s Planet products are available for purchase at retailers such as William’s-Sonoma, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sur La Table, and hundreds of independent kitchenware stores. After receiving the brochure, the National Sales Manager from Chef’s Planet, John Cooper, contacted Intromark Incorporated, InventHelp’s sister licensing company, for more information about the invention. After a few conversations with Chef’s Planet, Intromark Licensing Executive Justine Mayowski, and the inventor, negotiations began to establish a license agreement for the Perfect Pan. Ron Todd invented Erase-A-Hole in 1990 with the goal of simplifying wall repairs. For decades, the original drywall repair putty has been doing just that.

Erase-A-Hole Repair Putty is a quick and easy way to fill holes in your walls. From DIY projects to moving repairs, no extra tools are needed to get the job done. The product is a solution for cracks or holes in drywall, plaster, and wood. It can also be used for filling nail holes, screw holes, or settling cracks in walls. Simply apply in a circular motion, wipe with a damp cloth, and continue by painting.

Inspiration for Erase-A-Hole derived from Ron’s 20 years of drywall experience. This experience provided him with the insight needed for developing the features of his invention. The quick use applicator is compact and portable to fit right into your toolbox. The putty itself is made with a custom blend of ingredients that won’t cause shrinking or cracking, plus it dries white.

Since Ron’s retirement, the brand has been taken over by his daughter, Jennifer Deans. Although the product may be in different hands, the core values behind “Erase-A-Hole” remain the same. Maintaining the ideals of a small family business, Jennifer continues to manufacture in their home state of Texas.

“We have been working with InventHelp since 2015 and they have brought many new opportunities and partnerships from our efforts. They are an excellent resource and have a teamwork approach to exposing our products to clients we wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach.” 

Erase-A-Hole lives on through the hard work of Jennifer, but we can thank Ron for his creativity and experience that inspired the idea. The father-daughter duo behind the product resulted in a DIY product that has been used for home repairs for decades.

Perhaps nothing inspires inventors more than inefficiency. For retired businessman Henry Bessinger, it was the inefficiency of a traditional garden trimming tool that lead him to develop his invention, the Weed Thrasher.

“The normal head on my weed trimmer would jam up all the time,” Bessinger explained. “It was to the point where I spent more time fixing it than I actually spent working in my garden.”

Years ago, Bessinger came up with the idea for an all-metal accessory with cutters to replace the nylon line in the head of a weed trimmer. The accessory could fit easily onto most gas-powered trimmers, and would virtually eliminate jamming. Bessinger obtained a patent and developed the Weed Thrasher™ into a finished product.

Bessinger contracted with InventHelp for submission to industry services. “From the start, the company has been really helpful and supportive” said Bessinger.

InventHelp prepared materials outlining the Weed Thrasher’s important features and benefits and submitted the invention to companies. Several companies inquired about Bessinger’s invention, but initially, no agreements were reached.

InventHelp exhibits at trade shows to obtain registrations for its Data Bank. While attending the National Hardware Show, Intromark Licensing Executive Ronny Smith met Ken Strong, President of CRT Products, a company which specializes in “As Seen On TV” infomercials. Intromark agreed to send CRT patented inventions for review, including the Weed Thrasher.

“It got an immediate response from them,” Smith said. “They expressed interest in licensing the rights to distribute it nationally.”

Intromark handled negotiations between Bessinger and CRT Products. A licensing agreement was finalized and CRT created an infomercial featuring the Weed Thrasher, which aired on cable television.

The infomercial yielded a good response and CRT Products continued placing it on television. Some of the channels included ESPN, CNN, and The Weather Channel. Infomercial sales grew steadily and, eventually, retailers such as Walmart and The Home Depot sold the Weed Thrasher in their stores.

The Half Time Drill Driver, an InventHelp licensed client invention, is available in Bed Bath & Beyond, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and other retailers across the country.

“We are pleased that one of our client’s products is on the shelves of several large chain stores around the country,” said Nicole Hait, Director of Communications for InventHelp. “This InventHelp client, a machinist by trade, prides himself on thinking up ideas that solve problems in his field. His invention, the Half Time Drill Driver, is a power tool attachment that enables the user to quickly switch from a drill to a screwdriver, without having to change bits, in less than two seconds. This accessory can drill and countersink a hole in one step,” said Hait.

To use, an individual selects two different size bits, drills the pilot hole, flips the pivot arm, and then drives in any screw, nut, or fastener. The patent-pending swivel head flips and locks, providing the user an easy switch from drilling to driving in several seconds.

Intromark Incorporated, InventHelp’s sister licensing company, negotiated an agreement between the inventors and a well-known direct response television company. This resulted in a national TV campaign and ultimately placement in retail outlets with the InventHelp caveman appearing on every package.

As well as appearing in the well-known stores listed above, the Half Time Drill Driver is also selling in Kmart, Target, Meijer, ShopKo, and many grocery store chains across the country. Direct response and retail sales through the first quarter of 2012 are estimated at more than $2.5 million.

Plumbers and home handymen face a common problem related to toilet installations. Bathroom flooring is installed around waste pipes in a manner that makes it very difficult to connect the toilet to the waste line because the flooring interferes with the installation of the pipe flange connection. Plumbers must often cut away flooring to enlarge the space around the waste line in order for a traditional over-the-pipe flange to be installed.

What are the chances that a carpenter has the foresight to cut a wide enough gap in the floor around the waste pipe? “Don’t bet on it,” jokes Greg Sesser. Once, in a single day, Sesser and his partner, Mike Johnson, installed 15 toilet flanges, enlarging the floor hole for each and every one with an electric saw.

Exhausted from a long day, the two couldn’t help feeling there had to be a better way. Since there wasn’t anything currently on the market that could help them, they invented an improved flange; one with fewer components that are installed inside the waste pipe rather than over it, solving their floor problems once and for all.

They came up with a concept for a flange that would go inside the pipe and seal to it with a tapered thread inside a threaded expansion gasket. They surmised that the simple process of attaching inside rather than outside the pipe could save plumbers thousands of labor hours each year. The device could be used in new construction and also as a replacement for broken flanges for cast iron waste pipes set in concrete. They called their invention the E-Z Set Herkle Ring.

Sesser and Johnson purchased InventHelp’s submission services. InventHelp also referred the inventors to a licensed patent attorney who obtained a patent on their behalf.

One of the companies InventHelp submitted their invention to was Oatey Company, a leading manufacturer of plumbing fittings and supplies. InventHelp sent the E-Z Set Herkle Ring submission brochure to Oatey Company for confidential review.

Raun Kopp, Oatey’s Vice President of Product Development and Quality Assurance, expressed substantial interest in the E-Z Set Herkle Ring. Intromark, InventHelp’s sister licensing company, followed up on the interest expressed and sent Oatey Company a rough prototype of the flange for review. Oatey had many concerns, including competition, usefulness, available patent protection, and whether or not the invention would actually work.

Oatey Company Project Manager, Susan Geary, conducted an extensive review of the potential market, costs, and functionality of the device. The company then committed to creating and testing 10 production quality prototypes. The results from both the lab and field tests were favorable. Having passed rigorous internal scrutiny, Oatey decided to attempt to commercialize the E-Z Set Herkle Ring and began seeking exclusive rights to the concept. Thereafter Intromark successfully negotiated a license agreement. Later, at their own expense, Oatey Company created the first production molds at a cost of approximately $50 thousand, and field-tested the initial runs with good results.

The E-Z Set Herkle Ring was then renamed the Twist-N-Set by Oatey and introduced to the marketplace. Since that time the Twist-N-Set has been a part of Oatey Company’s product line and is available in retail and wholesale distribution centers nationwide including Home Depot and Ace Hardware stores. Twist-N-Set has found consumer acceptance and several handyman blogs recommend the Twist-N-Set as an easy way to raise a toilet flange when the installation of new flooring creates a space between the existing flange and the toilet.

Through its long history, the Twist-N-Set has generated more than $25 million in retail sales.

Sesser and Johnson purchased InventHelp’s submission services. InventHelp also referred the inventors to a licensed patent attorney who obtained a patent on their behalf.

One of the companies InventHelp submitted their invention to was Oatey Company, a leading manufacturer of plumbing fittings and supplies. InventHelp sent the E-Z Set Herkle Ring submission brochure to Oatey Company for confidential review.

Raun Kopp, Oatey’s Vice President of Product Development and Quality Assurance, expressed substantial interest in the E-Z Set Herkle Ring. Intromark, InventHelp’s sister licensing company, followed up on the interest expressed and sent Oatey Company a rough prototype of the flange for review. Oatey had many concerns, including competition, usefulness, available patent protection, and whether or not the invention would actually work.

Oatey Company Project Manager, Susan Geary, conducted an extensive review of the potential market, costs, and functionality of the device. The company then committed to creating and testing 10 production quality prototypes. The results from both the lab and field tests were favorable. Having passed rigorous internal scrutiny, Oatey decided to attempt to commercialize the E-Z Set Herkle Ring and began seeking exclusive rights to the concept. Thereafter Intromark successfully negotiated a license agreement. Later, at their own expense, Oatey Company created the first production molds at a cost of approximately $50 thousand, and field-tested the initial runs with good results.

The E-Z Set Herkle Ring was then renamed the Twist-N-Set by Oatey and introduced to the marketplace. Since that time the Twist-N-Set has been a part of Oatey Company’s product line and is available in retail and wholesale distribution centers nationwide including Home Depot and Ace Hardware stores. Twist-N-Set has found consumer acceptance and several handyman blogs recommend the Twist-N-Set as an easy way to raise a toilet flange when the installation of new flooring creates a space between the existing flange and the toilet.

Through its long history, the Twist-N-Set has generated more than $25 million in retail sales.

“I was tired of having the dust fall onto the furniture and floor below when I cleaned my ceiling fans,” said Brian O’Neil, inventor of the FanBlade Cleaner. “I wanted to find a way to keep the dust contained.”
