Frequently Asked Questions

So, you have an invention idea, but you’re not sure what to do next. You may be wondering if InventHelp is right for you. There are tons of questions you might still have about the invention services InventHelp has to offer. An InventHelp sales representative will be able to sit down with you in person or over the phone; but in the meantime, here are some frequently asked questions and answers.

Already confident in your decision to move forward with InventHelp?

InventHelp® is a company dedicated to assisting inventors in submitting their ideas to industry. We have been helping inventors since 1984 and have sales offices in major U.S. cities and headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

InventHelp® offers services to help inventors submit their ideas to companies, providing guidance and maintaining confidentiality throughout the invention process from initial meeting to completion of services. As a leading invention service company, InventHelp® offers patent referral services and professional marketing materials that may appeal to companies.

We offer a range of services to help inventors, including:

Patent Referrals: We can refer you to independent patent attorneys for more affordable patent services than those sought elsewhere.

Invention Submission: We submit your invention idea to companies in the InventHelp® Data Bank and other databases.

Virtual Invention Presentation: We create a 3D computer generated animation that showcases how your idea functions as well as its benefits and features. The VIP can be delivered via a secure link on your Digital Business Card (NFC).

Prototype Model: We produce a model representation of your invention using 3D printing software and 3D printing technology.

Production Drawings: We prepare finalized drawings and specifications – including dimensions, materials, tolerances, finishes and fabrication notes – to guide accurate manufacturing of your idea.

Publicity Services: We will write and publish a press release on the availability of your invention through an online publicity distribution service. Your press release will not reveal the working details of your invention for the sake of confidentiality.

We prepare a submission brochure highlighting the benefits, features, and functions of your invention to submit your idea to companies. InventHelp® attends industry trade shows and creates artwork and written materials for your idea.

The InventHelp® Data Bank is a database of companies that have agreed to confidentially review InventHelp® client inventions. These companies are registered under their areas of interest; interests that cover over 25 product categories. We try to best match your invention with these companies based on these expressed interests and industry codes.

Since 1984, InventHelp has been helping inventors. With sales offices in the US and Canada, it’s easy to connect with someone from InventHelp who can provide you with free information on our invention services.

For the same reason consumers buy any service: convenience and cost. For example, to obtain similar services as those offered by InventHelp, an inventor would have to:

  • Assemble general information relating to the invention such as benefits, features, target markets, etc.
  • Hire a professional animator
  • Write and print quality invention literature
  • Select companies to which ideas can be confidentially submitted
  • Obtain confidentiality agreements with those companies
  • Attend industry trade shows to make general contacts
  • Prepare a press release and publish on an online publicity distribution site
  • Submit your idea to companies who have agreed to review ideas in confidence

These services purchased individually by an inventor acting alone could cost much more than InventHelp’s bundled services.

Yes. Upon contacting InventHelp, we will sign a Statement of Confidentiality & Non-use with you to maintain confidentiality of your idea.

Yes. InventHelp charges a fee for its invention submission services, which are explained upfront before you sign any agreement. Someone from InventHelp can walk you through all costs associated with services available to you.

The Virtual Trade Show (VTS) is a digital platform that gives your invention year-round visibility with companies in the InventHelp® Data Bank, allowing them to review a secure profile of your idea on their own schedule. While InventHelp® may attend physical trade shows as part of its broader marketing efforts, inclusion in this program does not guarantee display at any specific event.

We do not typically display client inventions at trade shows we attend. Rather, we attend trade shows with the purpose of obtaining new contacts and adding new companies to the InventHelp Data Bank.

Patent protection can provide legal protection for your idea. While we do not provide patent advice, as such advice can only come from a patent attorney, we can refer you to an independent patent attorney who can assist with patent applications and provide patent related services.

InventHelp does not evaluate inventions. We simply do not believe that our opinion or anyone’s else’s opinion of the possible acceptability or market potential of a new product idea or invention is any more than just that – an opinion. The only opinions that matter are those of companies who may review your invention.

We do not evaluate inventions or appraise the merit or marketability of your invention idea.

Tangible Products
InventHelp® works with ideas that could be made into tangible products. These are physical products that can be manufactured and reproduced.

These categories include, but aren’t limited to hardware, housewares, toys and games, pet care, lawn and garden, electronics, sporting goods, apparel, and more!
